The criminal justice and law enforcement program is for students planning to concentrate in the law enforcement area of the criminal justice system. In this program, students will prepare for administrative and law enforcement management positions with municipal, county, state and federal agencies. The training offered through this program meets the requirements of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission.

AS: Criminal Justice Technology

The two-year Associate in Science degree in Criminal Justice Technology is designed for individuals who seek a career in law enforcement, corrections, criminalistics, or community-based control functions. It is also designed for people who are currently employed in those fields and want to improve their skills for career development.

First Aid Instructor

  • DATES/TIMES: May 5-9, 2025 / Monday-Friday / 0900-1800
  • LOCATION: MCSO Hanger Classroom / Marathon, FL
  • INSTRUCTOR: Sgt. Thomas C. Hill - MCSO
  • DESCRIPTION: This 40-Hour Specialized Training course is designed to for an individual to become a certified CMS First Aid instructor and to instruct at certified Training Centers and In-service Training.  Attendees must have a minimum of three years’ work experience as a law enforcement or correctional officer and should possess a General Instructor Certification.  Attendees should also be a certified CPR Instructor with the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, National Safety Council, or the American Safety and Health Institute.

Laser/Radar Speed Measurement Course

Florida General Instructor Techniques Course

  • DATES/TIMES: September 15-19 and 22-24, 2025 / 0900 -1800

  • DESCRIPTION: This is the Criminal Justice Standards & Training Commission 64-hour specialized training course required to become a certified Criminal Justice Instructor. Its goal is to introduce the student to the role, responsibilities, skills, knowledge, and expectations of a successful instructor and to enhance the student's facilitation and instructional abilities.

Basic Abilities Test (BAT)

Effective August 15, 2019, the Basic Abilities Test (BAT) will be conducted through PearsonVue Testing Centers.

To register, go to 
Once you click on the link you will complete the following:

  1. Create an account with PearsonVue
  2. Locate the exam (this will be under Florida Department of Law Enforcement FDLE)
  3. Locate a PearsonVue Testing Center closest to your location
  4. Choose a test date and time
  5. Pay for exam

You will receive a confirmation email once completed.  There will be no same day scheduling of exam so schedule the exam in a timely manner.

 

 As of July 1, 2022, section 943.17(1)(g) states that any candidate wishing to enter a law enforcement academy that either (i) is a veteran as classified in section 1.01(14), F.S., or (ii) holds an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university is not required to take the Law Enforcement Basic Abilities Test. Please note that veteran is defined as being honorably discharged from military service. No other discharge classifications qualify. Please note that this does not apply to candidates wishing to enter a corrections academy.
